Quiet and green inside Tel Aviv

  • Ramat Aviv: a quieter residential neighborhood near Tel Aviv University, with larger apartments, more green space and a family-friendly feel. You will usually want a bus or a car for trips to the center.
  • Bavli: a calm, green neighborhood close to the Yarkon River and Park, with low and mid-rise buildings. It has fewer restaurants and bars than the center, and many buildings are older.
  • Tzahala: a low-rise neighborhood in the far north-east, known for houses with gardens and quiet streets. Supply is limited, and you will usually want a car or a good public transport plan.

Lively but family-friendly

  • North Tel Aviv (Old North and New North): tree-lined streets, parks, the beach within reach and a strong English-speaking community. Demand is high, so good apartments can go quickly.

Cities just outside Tel Aviv

  • Herzliya: a coastal city north of Tel Aviv with quieter residential streets. It has its own municipality, so arnona and local services are handled by Herzliya.
  • Givatayim: a small, green city beside Tel Aviv with a community feel, close to the center. Supply is smaller, so good apartments can go quickly.
  • Ramat Gan: a separate city on Tel Aviv's eastern border with large parks and many residential buildings. It also has its own municipality.

What to check before you choose

  • Schools and daily routines: check them against your own needs, since we only describe the neighborhoods.
  • The commute to work and to the center, by car and by public transport, at the times you will travel.
  • The building: elevator, parking, floor and condition. Older buildings are charming but vary.
  • Visit more than one street, and more than one time of day.
